What we’ve learned
Your participation in the Diet and Vision Study has provided a wealth of information about ways that we can benefit eye health. Even more valuable discoveries are being made through the Second Diet and Vision Study, which is still open for participation! Here are a few of the things we’ve learned so far:
o Healthy lifestyles lowered odds of having age-related macular degeneration (AMD), regardless of genetic risk. Women who ate healthy diets, did not smoke, and enjoyed more physical activity had the lowest chance of developing AMD.
o Having adequate levels of vitamin D lowered the odds of having AMD. This protective effect was especially strong for women at higher genetic risk.
